Have you just started playing poker? Are you confused about the troublesome hand-rankings of the game? As a novice player, remembering hand rankings can seem a little tough.

As a beginner, it’s important to be clear with all the basics of poker. To start with the game, poker hand rankings are something that any new poker player must know.

Here is a list of all the poker hand rankings in the best to worst order that you must know before you start playing poker

1.Royal Flush

The hand consists of five highest cards in a sequence of the same suit. For example- (A♠ K♠ Q♠ J♠ 10♠)

2. Straight Flush

A combination of five cards of the same suit in a sequence is a straight flush. For example- 10♦ 9♦ 8♦ 7♦ 6♦

3. Four of a kind (Quads)

It is a hand combination of four cards of an equal rank of any suit and fifth one of any other value. For example- Q♠ Q♦ Q♥ Q♣ 7♠

4.Full house ( Full Boat)

This card combination consists of 3 cards of one rank and 2 cards of different rank regardless of their suits. For example- 10♦ 10♣ 10♥ 8♦ 8♠

5.Flush

Here, all cards are of the same suit. For example- 5♥ 8♥ 9♥ J♥ K♥

6. Straight

In this hand combination, all five cards can be of different suits but they should be in the sequence. For example- 9♠ 10♥ J♦ Q♥ K♣

7. Three of a kind (Triplets/Trips)

Here, three cards are of the same rank while the other two are different. For Example- 9♥ 9♠ 9♣ 4♦ 5♠

8.Two- pair

Two pairs of cards are of equal rank and one remains unpaired. For example- 10♦ 10♣ 5♦ 5♠ J♣

9.Pair

Two cards are of the same rank while the remaining three are of the unequal rank. For example- 5♣ 5♦ 7♥ 10♣ Q♥

10.High Card

Any five unequal cards of a different suit. But, in the end, if you come across the same type of hands, then the hand with the highest value will win. For example- 10♣ 7♦ 2♣ 6♥ 3♠

These are the hand rankings in the game of poker. The strength of the hand decides who is to win the pot. In case two players hold hands that have equal value, the pot gets divided into two equal halves.
